This room is named after Carl Nicolai Christiansen, who was born in Westerland in 1864. On Sylt, he was known only by his nickname, “Käpt’n Corl.” He went on board a ship for the first time at age 15 and was already a captain with the East Africa Line by the age of 27. In 1902, he returned to Sylt and spent 25 years captaining the paddle steamers between Hoyer, Denmark, and Munkmarsch (at that time still the only connection to the mainland).
